et me interrupt this broadcast to say - I WORK WITH FABULOUS PEOPLE! It's true, my clients are amazing!!
And Adrienne and Ryan are no exception. They exude fabulousity!
We met up a couple of nights ago down south of Denver in old town Littleton. It was an incredible evening to get out for a stroll, get to know this wonderful couple, and capture some amazing photographs. Wouldn't this one make a super cool 'Save The Date' note?!

Ok, I'm warning you now. There is a string of kissing pictures on the way here. But not this one. No, this is a flower photo!

You can't tell... But I think they're kissing. Just kidding guys! :) Love the Chuck Taylors!

We took a few minutes and played around with the 'Single Flash Multiple Frame' Technique. I enjoy doing these as it results in something so different than my usual style.

Congrats you two!! So happy that your wedding is 'Coming Soon'!!
remember when I met up with Kate and Drew for their engagement session in Kate's parent's backyard. They told me that this would be the place for their wedding reception - but beyond that I remember them laying out the entire vision for the celebration. The cake table will go here, the band will be here, there will be tables here... Even Kate's parents joined in - There will be other flowers here, this bed of flowers here will look different... There was a strong, clear vision to perfectly celebrate the marriage of Kate and Drew.
So, did they pull it off?
The best way I can answer that is to show you the photographs. :)
But, FIRST, they've gotta get married, right!? We started the afternoon with a beautiful wedding at St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colorado. Here's Kate waiting just outside the door before her walk down the aisle.

And here she is, accompanied by her father.

The church looked incredible.

I think Drew especially enjoyed getting bubbles blown in his face. :)

And then they were off to celebrate! Here are just a few of the details...

The entire scene was New Orleans style and it was like they took this little piece of Boulder and transported us way down south. But before you try any of this on your own you must know that it took an unbelievable amount of work by some very talented people - namely Julie of Classic Creations for planning and coordinating this entire event. Alicia at Bella Fiori for all the florals. Catering by Design for all the food. Jerry Barnett Productions for the music. TDA Design for the lights. And I'm sure there are more... Outstanding!
They even had an incredible second line band playing during the cocktail hour which added to the southern atmosphere.

And at one point they did a grand entrance with the bride and groom.

There was a 40% chance of rain or something scary like that. But when faced with all of the options on how to protect against what may come, ie. put up a tent, move indoors, etc. - Kate wasn't having any of it. It didn't fit the dream you see. And so we all prayed and look! Sunbeams! It all turned out magnificently!

Drew's grandmother led a parade to the tune of 'When The Saints Go Marching In'!

And true to his roots, Drew joined the fun.

Congrats you two. What an amazing wedding and reception. Thanks again for letting me play my part in capturing your day.
hen I first got started in this business I was completely unaware of the power of a good blog and the important role a good blog plays in the wedding industry. But it didn't take long for me to develop some kind of addiction to wedding blogs! At first my blogroll was primarily other photographers. I'm sure that at it's peak I was subscribing to 30+ other photography blogs - learning about the business, being inspired by fabulous weddings and photographs, etc. But right now I've trimmed that list down to just a few and while a couple of the 'big name' wedding photographers are still on the role, now I pay more attention to my friends in the local community and what they're up to.
On the national (or, global!) scene, my blog interests have moved to, what I call, 'Bridal Blogs'. These are the websites brides can, and do, turn to for inspiration when planning their wedding. And my thought process goes like this - if this is what Brides are looking at, shouldn't I be looking at them too!? It's helped me see what is truly happening right now in the wedding world beyond photographs. Sure, photos are there, but these bridal blogs also feature design, stationary, florals, reception concepts, bridal tips, etc. All of these are things that help me be more in tune to what is happening in the world of weddings.
As a byproduct of following these Bridal Blogs I've also got involved with some of them. Recently, around the web, you can find my work on the following sites:
As you can see, I'm a true believer in these Bridal Blogs! For how they inspire Brides and Grooms and all of us wedding vendors, and for how they help my business by getting my images in front of a national audience!
've seen all kinds of weddings - and my favorite are when the anxiety is at a low, joy is in abundance, and love is in the air. Laura and Jon's wedding was one of these and it was such a delight to behold. Simple, True, Happy - and perfect.

Ok - any brides out there trying to nail down that perfect song for the Father/Daughter dance?? How about 'Yeah' by Usher! A surprising choice? We were all surprised too! In a split second I decided to hit my camera's record button and go for the next hit viral video...
k, many of you know that I'm on vacation right now and I had mentioned that I wouldn't be adding any new posts for a little while.... well, you just can't keep me away! :)
The story goes that I flew back in on Sunday, taking a little break from my vacation to photograph the wedding of Laura and Jon here in Denver today. I'm flying out tomorrow at 6am to continue my vacation - but I just couldn't leave town without posting an image from Laura and Jon's lovely wedding!
t's been a journey thus far for Jessica and Brad! Both former CU students with either a major or a minor in German (the only class I flunked in High School!), and both spending time living in Germany (but not at the same time!) - now their lives have led them to Dublin...
Ohio.
Next year they plan to wed here in Colorado, but while they were in town recently they contacted me about doing an engagement session in the area. It was so fun meeting them and playing around the downtown area!
Your photography is inspirational! You do a great job! I recently became hooked on photography and was hoping you may be able to give me some pointers on how to get started. I plan on taking a photo class at FRCC soon, but where do I go from there? Where did you start? If you wouldn't mind taking a few minutes of your time to respond, it would be much appreciated!!
This email reminded me of a conversation I had with one of my closest friends last year after she had finished taking a photography class with Dane Sanders, Mike Colon, and Jessica Claire and was wondering what next step she should take and what class she should sign up for next...
I told my friend, and I'll tell the author of this email, that your next step is to go print some business cards.
Going to classes and workshops is easy. It can be fun, and it may feel like you're advancing your business - but you're not. It's not until you take that first step that you 'advance' anywhere at all. Classes and workshops are like packing your bags for a big excursion. You're going to need supplies and maps, and depending on where you think you might go, you might need lots of supplies and advice from experienced guides, etc. - but until you pull up to the trail and put your new hiking boot to dirt - you won't go anywhere.
Where did I start? I started on the trail. And you know what? At the beginning, it's kinda hard to tell where that trail is headed. But you print out those business cards and you watch what happens.
Early on your network will be small, but you give your business cards to your friends and your family - and you give them a few so that they can hand them off to others when their conversations turn to portraits, or a wedding - and you wait. But you're not really waiting, are you? You're taking step two or step three down the path, and you're passing out those business cards every step of the way.
Pretty soon you'll book a session or two, maybe even a wedding. And then you'll learn! Out in the real world. On the trail. And you'll pick up speed. You'll gain confidence. And very soon the trail will open up before you, forking a time or twenty, and you'll be able to travel the path you want to go and live the adventure you want to live.
But business cards are how it begins. Business cards, and hiking boots...
